The Collector will spawn depending on how full your inventory is. by doing that when the town buildings opened up i had the money to upgrade everyones weapons and armor and unlock the second tier of all their abilities Also found in a guide if you put the torch out immediatly your crit rate is higher and loot is better so you can get a quicker start.
